BMW N46 is a family of inline four gasoline engines produced from 2004 to 2015 installed on most compact and mid size models the 20 liter N46B20 was based on the N42B20 but received changes such as a new crankshaft balancer shafts connecting rods cylinder head cover intake manifold timing chain tensioner spark plugs generator and integrated Valvetronic ECU using Bosch ME 92 or MV1746 management in 2007 it was updated with a revised intake manifold and exhaust camshaft known as N46N.
