The BMW N46 is a 2.0-liter (1995 cc) inline 4-cylinder gasoline engine produced from 2004 to 2015, primarily for the brand's compact and mid-size models of that era. It is an evolution of the N42B20, though internally revised with improved components for better durability and emissions compliance.

The N46B20 features a traditional multi-point fuel injection system, along with Valvetronic variable valve lift and Double-VANOS variable timing. The updated N46N version offered enhanced performance and efficiency.

Power output ranges from 129 to 150 hp (standard) and 143 to 170 hp for the N46N variant, with torque output between 180–200 Nm (standard) and 190–210 Nm (N46N), making it a balanced engine for daily driving and moderate performance needs.
