Product Description
The Mazda WL-T engine, introduced in 1995 as a turbocharged version of the WL pre-chamber diesel, featured a cast-iron four-cylinder block, an aluminum 12-valve SOHC head with three valves per cylinder, no hydraulic lifters, and a combined timing belt system driving both the camshaft and high-pressure fuel pump through six gears. Output ranged from 110–115 hp with an IHI RHF5 turbo and intercooler, while higher-power versions used the same turbo with variable geometry. To reduce vibrations, balancing shafts were installed in the crankcase. Initially fitted with a mechanical Zexel (Bosch) high-pressure fuel pump, the engine switched to an electronically controlled Zexel pump after September 1999, with these later variants often referred to as WL-TE.
