Product Description

The Mitsubishi 4M40 is a 2.8-liter inline 4-cylinder SOHC diesel engine with a cast-iron block and aluminum head, produced in both naturally aspirated and turbocharged versions. Its dimensions are 95 × 100 mm with a displacement of 2,835 cc and a swirl combustion chamber. The naturally aspirated version, with a 21.0:1 compression ratio and a Zexel distributor-type pump, produced 80 PS and 198 Nm, and in light-duty Canter trucks reached 94 PS and 191 Nm. The first-generation intercooled turbo variant delivered 125 PS and 294 Nm, powering the Pajero, Type 73 light truck, Triton/L200 Sport, and Colt LDV. The second-generation intercooled turbo version, with either electronic or mechanical Zexel distributor pumps, produced 140 PS and 314 Nm, and was used in the Triton/L200 Sport and L400 Delica.
