Product Description
The Mitsubishi 4G63 is a 2.0-liter inline-4 engine from the Sirius family, produced in SOHC and DOHC forms, both naturally aspirated and turbocharged. With a displacement of 1997 cc and bore × stroke of 85 × 88 mm, it features a cast-iron block, aluminum head and multi-point fuel injection. SOHC versions included an 8-valve carbureted G63B for pickups such as the L200, Strada, Mighty Max and Dodge Ram 50, as well as 16-valve naturally aspirated units used in the Galant, Montero, Pajero and Space Wagon with outputs ranging from around 100 to 137 PS; a SOHC turbo version was also built in China (4G63S4T) producing 130–140 kW and 253 Nm. The DOHC version appeared in 1987 in the Galant and later powered the Eclipse, Talon, Laser and Lancer Evolution I–IX, with early “six-bolt” and later “seven-bolt” designs. Output ranged from 200 PS in early turbocharged Galants to 271 hp and 370 Nm in the 2003 Lancer Evolution, reaching 280 PS with MIVEC and a revised turbo in the Evolution IX. Some versions featured the unique “Sirius Dash 3×2” system switching between two or three valves per cylinder, while later DOHC models adopted MIVEC variable valve timing. Over its long production run, the 4G63 proved to be one of Mitsubishi's most versatile and durable engines, powering vehicles from pickups and SUVs to legendary high-performance sports sedans.
