Product Description

The Nissan KA24 engine family succeeded the Z24 series in 1988, starting with the KA24E, a 2.4-liter SOHC 12-valve unit produced until 1997. It featured Hitachi sequential fuel injection, cast steel rods, a half-counterweighted crankshaft, and an aluminum cylinder head, offering durability but modest refinement. In 1991, modernization led to the KA24DE, a DOHC 16-valve version produced from 1993 to 2008 and widely used in Altima sedans, Presage minivans, Navara pickups, and X-Terra SUVs. Compared with the KA24E, the KA24DE added four valves per cylinder with shim-over-bucket actuation, a knock sensor, piston oil squirters, and stronger main bearings, while design differences between Japanese and Mexican blocks included oil pan, pickup, and dipstick placement. The DOHC variant delivered more power, torque, and a higher redline.
