The Nissan VQ40DE is a 4.0-liter V6 gasoline engine introduced in 2005 as the largest displacement unit in the VQ family, developed primarily for SUVs and pickups. It is an enlarged version of the VQ35DE, achieved by increasing cylinder bore and piston stroke, while retaining an aluminum block, DOHC aluminum heads, CVTCS variable valve timing on the intake, and a timing chain drive. Known for its durability, tuning potential, and reliability, it powered large Nissan models such as the Pathfinder, Frontier, Xterra, and was also used in the Suzuki Equator until 2013.
