Product Description
The 4.2-liter Nissan TD42 diesel engine was introduced in 1987 for the Nissan Patrol and Nissan Safari SUVs and remains popular in regions with less stringent emissions regulations. This 4,169 cc inline-six features a square design with a 96 mm × 96 mm bore and stroke and a mechanically controlled injection pump. Early versions were distinguished by a silver valve cover ("Silvertop"), while post-1995 models and turbocharged units used a black cover ("Blacktop"). Known for its simplicity, durability and reliability, the engine was also used in forklifts through Nissan Industrial Engine Manufacturing (later Global Component Technologies). Naturally aspirated versions deliver 115–135 PS, depending on application, and were fitted to the Nissan Civilian and Patrol/Safari Y60–Y61. In 1996, gudgeon pin diameter increased from 28 mm to 30 mm, and in 1997, the rear seal design was updated. The turbocharged Nissan TD42T, launched in 1993, came in five variants (T1–T5) and received reinforced pistons with extended oil squirters, improved crankshafts, and upgraded 11 mm plunger fuel pumps to support forced induction.
