Product Description
The Toyota 1KD-FTV is a 3.0 L (2,982 cc) inline-four common rail D-4D diesel engine produced with a DOHC 16-valve design, variable nozzle turbocharger (VNT), and intercooler. It has a bore and stroke of 96 mm × 103 mm (3.78 in × 4.06 in), a compression ratio of 17.9:1, and a redline at 4200 rpm. Output varies by market: typically 127 kW (170 hp; 173 PS) at 3400 rpm with 343–410 N·m (253–302 lb·ft; 35–42 kg·m) of torque at 1800–3400 rpm, with some versions rated up to 140 kW (188 hp; 190 PS) and 280 N·m (207 lb·ft; 29 kg·m).
It employs Toyota’s high-pressure D-4D common rail injection system operating up to 1,350 bar (19,600 psi), managed by a 32-bit ECU controlling fuel delivery, valve timing, and turbo boost. Pilot injection improves combustion smoothness, reduces lag, and lowers noise. Compared to its predecessor, the 1KZ, the 1KD delivers about 17% more power while consuming 11% less fuel.
This engine was used in the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado, Hilux Surf (3rd gen), HiAce (5th gen), Fortuner, Hilux, Dyna, Toyoace, and the Hino Dutro.
