The Toyota 1KZ-T is a 3.0-liter (2,982 cc) turbo diesel engine with a fully mechanical injection pump, 4 cylinders, SOHC, and 2 valves per cylinder. It features a compression ratio of 21.2:1, producing 123 hp (92 kW; 125 PS) at 3600 rpm and 296 N⋅m (218 lb⋅ft) of torque at 2000 rpm.
The Toyota 1KZ-TE is also a 3.0-liter (2,982 cc) turbo diesel with SOHC, 2 valves per cylinder, indirect injection, and ETCS-i electronic throttle control. It delivers 128 hp (95 kW; 130 PS) and 287 N⋅m (212 lb⋅ft) of torque, with a 4400 rpm redline. An intercooler version increased output to 138 hp (103 kW; 140 PS) and 343 N⋅m (253 lb⋅ft). Introduced in 1993 to replace the 2L-TE, it was installed in models such as the 70-series Prado, HiAce, and Hilux Surf, with Australian and South African deliveries under codes like KZN130, KZJ71W, KZJ78W, KZN160, and KZN165R.
