Product Description

The 4.5-liter Toyota 1VD-FTV is the first V8 diesel engine developed by Toyota Motor Corporation, produced since 2007 and used primarily in the Toyota Land Cruiser 200 and Lexus LX 450d, with a single-turbo version offered on the Land Cruiser 70. It succeeded the inline-six 1HD-FTE and was engineered to meet Euro 5 standards, featuring a water-cooled EGR system, catalytic converter, and diesel particulate filter. The engine uses a cast-iron block with a 90° V-angle, aluminum DOHC cylinder heads with hydraulic lifters, a Denso Common Rail fuel system, and a hybrid timing drive combining chains and gears. Turbocharging options include a single Garrett GTA2359V or twin IHI VB36 and IHI VB37 units. In 2012, Toyota introduced an updated version with a diesel particulate filter and more advanced piezo injectors replacing the earlier electromagnetic type. As the sole member of the VD engine family, this 32-valve unit is known for its strong performance and durability.
