Product Description
The 1.6-liter Suzuki G16A engine debuted in 1988 and gained popularity through models such as Escudo, X-90, Cultus and Swift. It was offered in 8-valve and 16-valve versions, with the latter often referred to as the G16B. As part of the G-series, it features an aluminum cylinder block with cast-iron liners, a timing belt drive and an aluminum 8-valve head without hydraulic lifters, with valve clearance adjusted by screw. The engine came in carbureted, single injection and distributed injection configurations: 8-valve SOHC carb or EPI before 1990, and 16-valve SOHC EPI after 1990. The carbureted version for the Australian Vitara produced 55 kW (75 PS; 74 hp) and 122.5 Nm of torque, while the European single point injection version delivered 59 kW (80 PS; 79 hp) and 127 Nm.
